The US Navy had approved formation of a new HT Squadron, now they needed a squadron emblem designed. |

Some of the initial concepts presented by the MyCustomLogo design team |
Until recently, two squadrons, located in Milton FL, have been responsible for training all Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps helicopter pilots. These squadrons are the “Eightballers” of HELTRARON EIGHT and the “Vigilant Eagles” of HT-18. Due to their excessive workload, the US Navy approved the formation of a third HT squadron, to be designated HELTRARON TWENTY-EIGHT.
John McLain, a Commander in the US Navy, was commissioned with the job of creating a proposal for the squadron's name and official emblem. He turned to MyCustomLogo.
Commander McLain explained the project to us as follows: "Unfortunately, most patch designs are committee affairs arrived at by consensus among amateurs, and rarely conform

to a coherent vision. My hope is to avoid that with this design, and arrive at a symbol that stakes a claim to our past, acknowledges our legacy, speaks to our mission and—above all, looks really cool."
After review of the specs provided by Commander McLain, his design team created several unique designs, all with different elements that he had suggested. Upon reviewing the concepts, the Commander suggested several revisions, including muting some of the colors and trying some different fonts.

The finalized emblem. |
Commander McLain and his associates ended settling on one of the original designs his design team had prepared, with no revisions. In his words:
"Presented my boss with designs today and he opted for hellions1--the original design. He was very enthusiastic and complimentary of your work. I will now put a proposal package together for his endorsement to the Naval Historical Division, who runs approval process. "
The final design was delivered in .pdf .jpeg, .gif. .eps and of course the editable .ai file.
